studioplusthree selected for Wallpaper* Architects' Directory 2018

We’re thrilled that our studio has been selected for the Wallpaper* Magazine's Architects’ Directory 2018.

Each year, the Directory features twenty of the ‘world’s best young architects’, and its a great pleasure to be included in such prestigious company.

“Harking from across the globe, this group of emerging architects join the Wallpaper* Architect’s Directory for 2018... studioplusthree combines craft, innovation and attention to detail to design".

Early in the year we were invited to submit a portfolio of some of our projects, and we were fortunate to have just received pictures from photographer Brett Boardman of our recently completed project - Platform House, in Bellevue Hill, Sydney. This has been a special project for us, not least because of our wonderful clients, so it's great to be able to share it with a wider audience. The project is on a constrained, triangular site, but makes the most of this by creating a new platform for living amongst the tree tops. The new volume is clad in charred timber, with carefully curated openings offering a continuous view to the treetops and a sense of horizon.

As part of the listing we were invited to attend a photoshoot in Paris in February. Wallpaper* Magazine has a global reach, and whilst we think our studio, representing Australia, possibly had the longest trip, other design practices came from as far as Japan, Hong Kong, Chile and the US - as well as from within Europe.

The shoot was held in the new Lafayette Anticipations building before its official opening - designed by Dutch architecture practice OMA for the Fondation Galeries Lafayette. The new arts facility, purposely designed and built as a venue for artists to experiment, produce and exhibit, felt like an appropriate location for a gathering of emerging architects. In addition to meeting the Wallpaper* team, we were delighted to meet the other emerging practices and share our experiences.

We've had to keep our inclusion in the Directory under wraps until the July issue of Wallpaper* magazine was released, so it's a great pleasure to now be able to share this with everyone. We especially like the illustration produced by Wallpaper* for the project.

As an emerging architecture and design studio, we’re honoured to be supported in this way. The final outcome of our projects is the result of an extensive design process of inquiry, experimentation and collaboration, so we're pleased to be recognised and hope that this is just the start of many exciting opportunities to come.
